1:50 Scale Model Volkswagen Transporter BF3 Escort Van in Mammoet Livery

Presented here is the 1:50th scale Volkswagen Transporter BF3 escort van in Mammoet livery from WSI. The model is based on the standard version of the van which is supplied in a set of three in the Mammoet black livery. The front bonnet has a detailed grill with clear and amber coloured plastic front lights and Volkswagen badge centrally located on the grill. The body panels have been cast well and in the all yellow livery, the van really does look good with accurate Mammoet markings and fleet number.
The roof mounted display has been nicely engineered and lifts up to reveal the caution display panel which has an authentic look and feel with the printing mimicking tiny LEDs with two large circular red plastic lenses on the upper corners. (For anyone with electronics knowledge, it shouldn't be too hard to replace the amber and red lights with LEDs and insert the battery inside the model).
As well as the raise up display, there is a slide out panel which lowers into position behind the van, complete with fold out side panels with red and white chevron pattern and authentic number plate. The van has a different style of wheel hubs than the standard Mammoet version and the front wheels do have working steering with limited movement. It is interesting that on the underside of the van, there is a spare wheel which does not match the design of the wheels fitted to the axles.

1:50 Scale Model MERCEDES BENZ Actros 6x4 with NOOTEBOOM OSDS-58-04V Semi-Low Loader Trailer

Presented here is the 1:50th scale Nooteboom OSDS-58-04V semi low loader trailer with Mercedes Benz Actros 6x4 tractor in the Mammoet livery from WSI Collectibles. With a 58 ton capacity, this trailer is capable of transporting a wide range of loads and WSI have included a number of small parts allowing the trailer to be configured for the job in hand.
The underside of the trailer is highly detailed with the suspension of each axle replicated with the two rear most axles featuring linked steering which can achieve a reasonable degree of turn. The tyres have an accurate tread pattern moulded into them and are fitted to silver wheel hubs.
wo ramps are supplied which fit between the bed and the raised gooseneck of the trailer. These have integrated grab handles and a ridge which slides along the lip of the holder. The main loading ramps are stored beneath the trailer in an opening compartment. This is another great touch on the model. The legs of the trailer have pivoting feet and can be adjusted in height by rotating them. The screw thread is hidden within the leg, adding to the realistic appearance.
The loading ramps have a lip which connects to the groove on the rear of the trailer frame allowing the ramps to be positioned at the required width. Fold down rear stabilisers help to keep the trailer level during loading operations and this is functional on the model.
The raised front deck of the trailer has a number of holes where the various parts can be connected. These consist of an angled front section, behind which the storage box can be fitted.
There are also two side sections and a rear section allowing the upper deck to be used as a storage area or as extra deck space.
The accessories consist of metal rods which push-fit into the holes along the side of the trailer. There is also a frame with simulated wooden wear strips along the top surface which slides onto the poles allowing loads, such as crane boom sections, to be carried securely (As pictured above). This is another great touch from WSI.
Pull out safety boards with a red and white chevron pattern are fitted beneath the deck and slide out smoothly whilst two separate safety panels are supplied which fit into the holes at the rear of the trailer to warn of extra wide loads.
The sides of the trailer have cast tie-down rings highlighted with silver paint along with pull out extension bars which allow the small simulated wooded planks to be installed to widen the bed of the trailer.
The main deck of the trailer features a textured surface with inset simulated wooded panels which really do add to the realistic look of the trailer. The trailer can be extended to transport long loads and this operates smoothly with a floating support bar which can be positioned at any point along the central support beam.
The Mercedes Benz 6x4 tractor is a very detailed unit with a replicated underside consisting of drive train from the gearbox to the rear driven axles with all the suspension detailing visible. The front axle features pivoting wheels but the degree of turn is limited.
The fifth wheel pivots and has the release handle integrated into the moulding. Silver deck panels with diamond plate textured surfaces have been added. The front grill on the cab has been cast well with a red and white chevron pattern applied to the front bumper, which has integrated driving lights with clear plastic lenses and number plate.
The storage unit behind the cab has silver highlighted handles and coiled service lines.
The wheels have a crisply moulded tread pattern which varies between the front and rear tyres which is a nice touch. The silver wheel hubs are finely detailed with red centres. The cab is fitted with a sun visor and rear view mirrors and has a replicated interior which is visible through the clear windows.
The entire cab can be tilted forward to reveal the engine block at the heart of the chassis, complete with silver exhaust piping. This looks good and the degree of tip allows the cab to remain in the raised position.
This is an exceptional model from WSI Collectibles and demonstrates an amazing level of detail and realism throughout. The supplied accessories are a nice touch, allowing the collector to set up the trailer to his own requirements.
